7. Four Pakistani sisters committed suicide over dowry issues
Four sisters from Pakistan committed suicide in 2013 after their father who happened to be a poor farmer couldn’t arrange for their dowry. The women jumped into a canal after an argument with their father who couldn’t afford to pay the dowry. Five sisters jumped in the canal in the southern part of the Punjab province. However, the fifth one was pulled out from the water alive. The women were aged 45, 43, 38, 35 and 31.
8. A man offered 20 cows and 40 goats to marry the daughter of Hillary Clinton
A Kenyan man in the year 2000 offered 20 cows and 40 goats for Chelsea Clinton’s hand in marriage. Hillary Clinton promised the man to convey his proposal to his daughter. During a town hall meeting in Kenya, Fareed Zakaria of CNN asked the U.S. Secretary of State, if any decision was made on the proposal made. The Kenyan journalist even wrote to Bill Clinton to know about the decision taken regarding the proposal. However, in August 2014, the journalist was killed by an elephant. The sad news is that he never received a response from Chelsea.
9. Dowry refund was demanded by a Kenyan man after a bitter divorce
A Kenyan man asked for a refund from his ex-wife’s parents a decade after the divorce. Wanyoror married his wife in 2004 in a lavish ceremony in a church in the Bahati Distict of Nakuru County. The marriage lasted for just three months and all his attempts to reconcile went futile. He remarried, but that didn’t last for more than a year. He had no kids and his neighbors started calling him “Baba Zero”. None of the women agreed to marry him because of his poor reputation. He married for the third time and raised two kids. However, people suspected the kids to be belonging to some other man. He decided to take revenge upon finding that his first wife was responsible for his notoriety. He now wants back his KSh 10,000 which he paid to his ex-wife’s father as good will.
10. The woman filed for a divorce over receiving a fake Chopard as dowry
A newly married woman is reported to have filed for a divorce from her husband after discovering that the Chopard she received as a dowry was a fake one. The truth was discovered when she took the watch for repair and was informed that it wasn’t genuine. The heated argument between the couple resulted in the woman seeking a divorce from her husband. The woman is demanding the real value of the Chopard to be paid to her as compensation.
